I have come to this part of the project after some heavy thinking. Originally my intention was to package a CD to contain all deliverable files, and that this would form my second proposal. Its neat, easy and will contain everything needed in order to ‘reproduce’ my project anywhere in the world. On the CD I plan to have a quicktime-stop-motion short film showing the process of how to dig the type. I will also include the files needed to cut the stencils of the typography.

However, the brief says differently. The CD package [pictured above] was going to contain a poster and perhaps some explanatory material. Now, things have changed a little. The second proposal must be within an A4 format. I am unsure if this means it must be in a “flop book” format like the last proposal though? I am still pretty sure about making a little package, with CD and poster folded into one, as this is an ideal format to sent via mail/given to people. Going A4 for the sake of going A4 to conform to a need that is “outside” of my project, is both annoying and frustrating. It will mean more work on my part, but a brief is a brief and it will need to be done. The package may have to be anchored to the second proposal somehow, glue, or adhesive. It’s late and I’m tired but I will continue to work.

My little movie-proposal will be on a cd, however, i didn’t want the cd to be packaged in a tacky plastic case. So I have mocked up a cd sleeve. It will unfold, revealing my proposal inside and out.

I’m still not sure if Morris Fuller Benton would be happy with what I’ve done to his typeface. Nonetheless, i am pleased with how it turned out. I just like the fact that I haven’t had to use computers to “mock-up” anything yet. All of my process was one of craft, if you can call digging a hole in the ground a ‘craft’. Finally getting my hands dirty for graphic design was a little liberating.

Using all of the photographs, a short 30-second movie will be made, flicking through the process that was undertaken to make the dirt type. The looping movie [accompanied by some sort of soundtrack] will be delivered in a CD case that will feature the project. The cd case will come with a poster [double sided] that will also feature photographs of the project. All in all this will be my ‘proposal’ of the execution. To spell it out even more so, the proposal [i.e. the movie on the CD, in the case with the poster] can then be handed to anyone from Swinburne to hopefully spark an interest in my project and allow my project to be extended onto Swinburne’s campus.
